Google News Search: "white powder"

From Sept 28 to Oct 28 Google News collected 811 articles with the exact phrase white powder" without the words clinton

In the last 24 hours Google News lists 337 articles with the exact phrase white powder with all of the words clinton

~I was surprised to see the many different places non-drug related "white powder" was making news. Is there a post-office, bus station or court house in the English speaking countries that hasn't been shut down if only for a few hours by "white powder"?

Clinton's harmless white powder is AP newswire-worthy. Which of todays politicians would get the same kind of national coverage? Every US Senator but only a few Congressmen? For which politicians would mail-room white powder get their names in the local news?
In a close election race a story about maybe being targeted by terrorists could make the difference between winning and losing? Is Clinton's "white powder" an attempt to pre-emptively defuse its usefulness as a last-minute electioneering ploy?
